Cancer is in my genes - literally and figuratively. When I was in college both my paternal aunt and my paternal grandmother passed away - 3 years apart, both in February, they both had breast cancer, as well as other health complications.

Today marks a significant milestone in my journey – it's been 8 years since my mastectomy, a day etched into my memory with a mix of emotions. As the Founder of BRCASTRONG, I find strength in sharing my story, hoping it inspires others facing similar challenges.

Hereditary Cancer and My Family

In October 2018 my dad had been told for the second time to go home and get his affairs in order. At this time we went to the cancer center of America. In 2019 we requested a DNA test be done on his cancer to better treat him. He had stage 4 liver cancer. The test came back with the BRCA1 gene. They tested him for all mutation then. Still positive for the BRCA1 gene and another mutation. In July of 2019 I tested positive for both the mutations my dad has.

The Unspoken

Most of the time when you hear the six letter word, CANCER, you think that the person is dying and that they are going to have to fight to stay alive. That fight entailing chemotherapy appointments, radiation, surgery, being really sick, losing weight, looking ill, and being tired. All of which are 100% accurate. But what you don’t think about are the unspoken obstacles the cancer patient will face. The unspoken obstacles that are just as hard.
