Running for Resilience: Empowering Women Through the London Marathon
This April, I’m running the London Marathon alongside my sister in survivorship, Vanessa, to raise funds for BRCA Strong. This journey isn’t just about crossing a finish line—it’s about honoring the strength of every woman facing a mastectomy and ensuring they never feel alone in the process.
Vanessa and I share a bond not just as runners, but as women who have faced the life-changing reality of BRCA1 mutations. A decade ago, I began my mission to earn the Abbott World Marathon Majors medal, running my first marathons while raising funds for Bright Pink. Shortly after, I underwent a double mastectomy and a complete hysterectomy to take control of my health. Now, I’m about to achieve my dream of completing all six World Marathon Majors—and in doing so, I will become the first woman globally to earn the Abbott Medal after a double mastectomy. But this journey has become so much bigger than a personal goal.
Vanessa’s story is a testament to resilience. This will be her first marathon post-mastectomy (just eight months after giving birth). Together, we are running to provide tangible support for women preparing for their own surgeries. Every $150 raised will provide a Pre-Mastectomy Care Kit—ensuring that women feel supported during one of the hardest decisions of their lives.
100% of the proceeds will go directly toward these kits, giving women the essential items they need for healing and recovery.
This isn’t just about running. It’s about showing up for the women who are making the hardest decision of their lives. It’s about turning fear into action, and struggle into strength. Join us in making an impact—one step, one kit, one woman at a time.
Donate today and help us empower women facing mastectomy with the care and support they deserve.
