The Birth of BRCAStrong

In 2015, two weeks after undergoing a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy, I founded BRCAStrong. My daughter, Gabriela, who was just seven years old at the time, lovingly compared me to a butterfly, symbolizing the different phases of life I was navigating. Her comparison resonated deeply, and it became the inspiration for our organization’s mission of transformation and resilience.

Our Mission and Impact

BRCAStrong is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women affected by breast cancer and gynecological cancers, regardless of their hereditary predisposition. Our mission is to provide financial support for routine monitoring and preventative surgery for Previvors, Thrivers, and Survivors. We strive to empower women throughout their journey towards health, positive self-image, and inspired living.

A Growing Sisterhood

Over the years, BRCAStrong has evolved into a sisterhood of Previvors, Thrivers, and Survivors. Our community offers education, information, support, and advocacy, especially for women who are uninsured or underinsured. Support from BRCAStrong comes in various forms:

– Premastectomy Care Packages: Carefully curated packages to prepare women for their surgery journey.
– Post-Mastectomy Garments: Essential garments provided to aid recovery and comfort after surgery.
– Gynecological Care Packages: Supportive items for women undergoing gynecological treatments.
– In REAL life in Memory of La’Kesha Gordon: Various other essentials to assist women through their treatment journey.

All these resources are provided at no cost to the recipients, ensuring that every woman has access to the support she needs. To date, BRCAStrong has helped over 6,800 women, a testament to the power of community and solidarity.

Reflecting on Two Decades

As I reflect on my journey over the past two decades, I am filled with gratitude for the support and love I have received from my family, friends, and the incredible BRCAStrong community. Together, we have built a foundation of strength and hope, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and empowerment. #UnBRCAble

Today, on my Previvorversary, I celebrate not just my personal journey, but the collective journey of all the amazing women who have become a part of BRCAStrong. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.

Stay strong, stay inspired, and always remember: together, we are stronger.
