Moderator: Dr. Jane Mendez, M.D.
Jane Méndez, M.D., FACS, is a surgical oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained at New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Méndez specializes in the treatment of breast cancer and performs all types of breast surgical procedures. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
She also completed a surgery residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Méndez gained extensive experience as a surgical oncologist at Boston Medical Center, where she served as president of the medical and dental staff. She also served as director of surgical clerkship and associate professor of surgery at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Méndez has contributed to notable breast cancer research, and her findings have been widely published. She also has presented abstracts at numerous national and international symposiums and serves on the editorial board of the breast section of the Annals of Surgical Oncology, a commonly used resource. Renowned for her patient care and advocacy, Dr. Méndez is passionate about educating patients and advancing breast cancer awareness and prevention outside the hospital setting, in the community, and at national meetings. She has also served on the governing board of the Susan G. Komen, Massachusetts affiliate. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Mautner Starr Mautner, M.D.
Starr Mautner, M.D., is a Board-certified surgeon with clinical expertise in breast surgical oncology at the Breast Center at Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Mautner specializes in breast surgical procedures, including breast conserving lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, skin sparing mastectomy, and nipple sparing mastectomy.
Dr. Mautner completed a breast surgical oncology clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She completed a general surgery internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital ― Manhattan, and general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital ― Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, where she was chief resident. She also completed a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she focused on ways to tailor surveillance and treatment for women with lobular carcinoma in situ and patient quality of life after contralateral prophylactic mastectomy. Dr. Mautner received her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons.

DR. Matthew Treiser, M.D., Ph.D
Matthew Treiser, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in plastic, reconstructive, hand and microsurgery. He offers a variety of services for patients, including oncologic reconstruction, and treatment for hand fractures and conditions, as well as peripheral nerve conditions and injuries. An expert in reconstructive surgery, Dr. Treiser has participated in multiple hand transplant surgeries and was a member of the first penile transplant surgery performed in the United States. Dr. Treiser joined Miami Cancer Institute from the Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. While there, he served as an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as hand and microsurgery. Dr. Treiser’s research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, The Journal of Hand Surgery, The Journal of Wrist Surgery, Annals of Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. He holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. Dr. Treiser focuses on providing leading-edge technological procedures that treat each patient individually. He believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to care. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Treiser enjoys snowboarding, golfing, running and traveling.

Dr. Miguel A. Medina III, M.D.
Miguel A. Medina III, M.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and director of microsurgery at the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Medina specializes in complex reconstruction and microsurgery, utilizing specialized operating microscopes and precision instrumentation to perform intricate procedures such as the reconnection of nerves, muscles, and blood vessels.
He focuses on restoring physical function and appearance, as well as confidence and dignity, after the surgical treatment of cancer. Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Medina’s clinical focus includes abdominal wall reconstruction, breast reconstructive surgery, including DIEP flap reconstruction, craniofacial reconstruction, and head and neck reconstructive surgery.
